In THE NEW VEGAN: Great Recipes, No-Nonsense Advice, and Simple Tips (Kyle Books: Paperback; April 2017 $19.95), the exciting follow up to her award-winning book Keep It Vegan, Áine Carlin turns her attention to those thinking about becoming vegan for the first time, offering helpful and humorous advice and over 90 tempting recipes to get you started.

As well as addressing ethical and environmental concerns, becoming vegan can have a dramatic effect on your health, from giving you more energy and better hair and skin, to reducing the risks of heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes thanks to cutting out so much saturated fat. Per The Huffington Post there are 7.5 million vegans in the United States, and in a poll by the Vegan Research Center one in four of vegans want better information about vegan products making Áine’s expertise invaluable.

For many the prospect of becoming vegan can be a daunting one. Having made the decision, herself a few years back, Áine (pronounced “Ahn-yuh”) knows from first-hand experience just how simple yet complex the process can be, and in her new book sets out to answer all those key questions, including what you can eat, what to tell people, and how to cope when eating out. Alongside this is vegan-friendly fashion (Áine was named 2015 Most Stylish Vegan by PETA) and plenty of ideas for plant-based beauty products. However, the food is the star of this book, and using super-market friendly ingredients, the recipes are designed to make the transition as easy as possible and satiate those initial cravings.

From vegan breakfasts with Savory Indian-Style Crepes and No-Bake Granola Bars and satisfying snacks like Crunchy Chipotle Chickpeas, to healthy meals like Black Bean Taquitos with an Enchilada Sauce and Jerk-Style Cauliflower Steaks, as well as tempting desserts Macadamia and Blueberry Cream Pie.

There are delicious lunch ideas such as three variations for Open-Faced Scandinavian Sandwiches and hearty soups and salads like Roasted Tomato Soup with Rosemary-Roasted Potatoes and Crunchy Broccoli and Carrot Salad with a Ginger Garlic Dressing. Alongside this are key recipes for creating vegan plant-based milk, nut creams, and cheese; recipes for sauces and condiments; juices made without a juicer; plus, a great selection of raw recipes and gluten-free options to cater to everyone.

THE NEW VEGAN is a must-read for anyone thinking about becoming vegan or just looking for ways to eat healthier. Áine’s practical advice, non-judgmental approach, and tempting recipes are the perfect tools for anyone starting out on this this journey as well as for vegans looking to expand their repertoire of recipes.
